Index Tuning for the Developer & 10 DBA Tasks for Azure SQL Database
19/05/2020
19/05/2020
In this session, we will be showing you how to get the best performance out of your application by using a good indexing strategy. We will be looking at the differences between clustered/non-clustered indexes, and touch on the different kinds of indexes like Columnstore and options you have (filtered, fill factor,…). Next to this, we will show you some common best practices to make sure you are able to use your index, and how to reduce the overhead of your indexes. After this session you will be able to evaluate your current indexing strategies and have a view on what your options are to improve your performance.
Adoption of Cloud is at an all time high, with no end in sight. Managing a fleet of databases on-premises was something you used to understand?
In this session, we’ll cover the 10 most common tasks a DBA needs to learn to manage in Azure SQL as well as they currently manage their On Prem installs.
One of the great things about Azure SQL Database is that the skill set your team has developed over the years translates well.
The tools and technologies you’re familiar with are all there. So much is the same but some of the tasks that DBAs do are different.
Stijn is a Microsoft Premier Field Engineer on Data & AI and a DataMinds core member. He is also one of the organizers of the local user group sessions & the yearly event called DataMinds Connect (SQL Server Days). He is a speaker at various international events (SQL Saturday,PASS Summit,Difinity,…). He spends his days tuning SQL Servers & solving problems with the full data platform. His focus is primarily on sql server core, but has also done various BI & ETL projects. He gets his kicks out of Columnstore indexes & tuning queries but shivers at the sight of an SSAS cube.
When Stijn is not working with SQL Server, you can probably find him enjoying the local cuisine & local beers or enjoying time with his wife and his dog.
Pieter Vanhove is a Solution Architect, Data & AI CTO Office at Microsoft and has been working with SQL Server since 2000. Pieter has a profound knowledge in implementing high availability and disaster recovery solutions and loves the new Azure stuff. Together with dataMinds (SQLUG) in Belgium, he helps organizing dataMinds Connect and is also a regular speaker at Belgian and international events.
