Recently, Miguel Myers – principal product manager at Microsoft – and his team embarked on a mission to improve out-of-the-box Power BI graph designs to optimize Power BI storytelling capabilities (rewatch his talk at the Wellington Power BI user group here).
Human perception, human cognition and accessibility theory are essential to understand how you create a design that works.. A design that helps users understand their data without (too) much cognitive overhead during their busy working days. In this talk, we’ll shortly go through the basics of these theories based on clear & fun examples in Power BI.

Joris finished his doctoral dissertation (PhD) on the topic of information Visualisation at the University of Leuven (KU Leuven) in 2008. Analysis and visualisation of ‘real’ data has been a recurring theme in all my projects. Joris taught multiple courses at the KU Leuven on the topics of Human-Computer Interaction and Data Visualisation and has given many talks and lectures cross industries and organisations. Currently, his team at Ordina helps customers to become truly data driven with a focus on actionable insights and self-served analytics
Jan has around 10 years of experience in data and visualization. Starting from interactive excel dashboards using vba he transitioned into Power BI. He likes thinking out of the box, therefor he can sometimes make the impossible possible which gives him great energy. Power BI has become more than a job for Jan, it is his passion
