The investment is already made. A Data Warehouse is already in place. The business analysts at your company are zen. They have their insights on a daily basis. They point out to you if things are going wrong. History will not repeat as they can see and analyze your past. Customers are being segmented, products are being followed or discarded, warehouses are being optimized,… . The business is ready to take the next step: Automatically react on your business insights.

Michiel Van Brusselen obtained a Master’s degree in Industrial Sciences -specialising in structural engineering- at the University of Antwerp in 2017. He completed the final master year working as a stability engineer at Planet Engineering in Brasschaat. His master thesis dealt with the automation of a sludge wall calculation, where the source data was manipulated using Python and REST API calls. For a data analysis project, in which the energy balance of a house was mapped and optimised, he gained data analysis and visualisation experience in PowerBI and the Azure data platform.
After completing his master’s thesis, Michiel started at Cropland as a Junior Data Scientist. As a consultant, he performed various tasks: analysing visitor numbers, setting up master data management processes, maintaining data quality, up to ETL actions on data sources. Furthermore, he gained knowledge by developing analyses in Python using Azure Databricks and Jupyter.
His initial Data Science projects and his work on data management & ETL motivated him to choose a career in Microsoft Analytics.
Michiel joined element61 in 2020.
In his first months at element61, Michiel was involved in the migration of an on-premise data warehouse solution to the Microsoft Azure Cloud environment. Here he was responsible for setting up Azure Data Factory pipelines, transforming and remodelling an on-premises SQL Server Database into Azure Synapse Analytics. The entire process was automated dmc CI/CD principles using ARM templates in Azure DevOps.
