Serverless data processing in Azure

In order to leverage the full scalability of the cloud, serverless technologies have become increasingly popular. However, the technology that was built with scalable application development in mind, is now slowly also penetrating the data world. So, what data services provide “serverless” options, how can these serverless options be utilized and what does that mean for example for modern data applications?
In this session the attendees will learn different patterns for working with data using serverless technology in Azure and understand in which cases, serverless might offer an advantage.
We will talk about data batch processing with Azure Data Factory and Azure Functions, about SQL and Synapse serverless options, about data straming and about Logic Apps.
These tools can be one of the building blocks for a modern data plattform architecture, so learn when and how to use them for maximum benefit.

Benjamin Kettner

CTO ML!PA Consulting GmbH

Dr. Benjamin Kettner is co-founder and CTO of ML!PA Consulting GmbH. Since 2020 he is Microsoft MVP and Friend of Red Gate. He received his doctorate in applied mathematics at the Free University of Berlin in 2012. At the time of his doctorate he was a member of the DFG Research Center Matheon – Mathematics for Key Technologies and a member of the Computational Nano Optics group at the Zuse Institute Berlin.
During his PhD and studies he worked on software development and programming as well as databases and data models. After his PhD he worked as a consultant at a Microsoft BI Partner, where he was technical project manager and also managed the research and development department and worked as a software architect. In 2015 he founded ML!PA Consulting GmbH, a Microsoft partner with a focus on advanced analytics, Internet of Things and cloud solutions. There he works as CTO and software architect and conceives, develops and designs customer solutions. In 2017 ML!PA Consulting GmbH was one of only four Microsoft Partner of the Year finalists in the Internet of Things category. Dr. Benjamin Kettner is active in the Microsoft Data Platform Community, leads the Berlin regional group of PASS Deutschland e.V. and frequently appears as author of blog posts and scientific articles and speaker at technical events.

Frank Geisler

GDS Business Intelligence GmbH

Frank Geisler is owner and CEO of GDS Business Intelligence GmbH. He is Data Platform MVP, MCT, MCSE – Business Intelligence, MCSE – Data Plattform and MCSE – Azure Solutions Architect. In his Job he is building Business Intelligence Systems based on Microsoft Technology, mainly on SQL Server and SharePoint and he is also building Azure Infrastructures and Architectures with PowerShell.
